Loft insulation – Checklist

  1. Items stored in loft spaces should be removed by customer before installation can take place.
  2. Items like 'mirrors' and pictures on walls leading to the loft access should be removed.
  3. All technicians have been trained to a high standard and will carry I.D. cards and ail necessary fools and equipment to complete the installation including dustsheets, lights and ladders.
  4. The time taken to install the insulation depends on the size, type and thickness being installed.
  5. Old insulation does not have to be taken out; this can be covered and topped up to 250mm.
  6. If the loft has no insulation, two layers will be installed one between the joists (100mm) and the second (150mm) at right angles across the joists, which will result in the joists being covered, this is to ensure efficiency.
  7. If there is already 50mm or above in the loft then we will to up to 250mm
  8. Pipe and tank insulation will be upgraded if required, the installer will assess this and make the necessary changes.
  9. Walkways will be fitted (if applicable) from the hatch to the tank for access and maintenance.
  10. Insulation must not block eaves or interfere with ventilation of the roof space, so a 50mm gap is required between insulation and underside of roof in the eaves.
  11. The insulation will be retained 75mm from all electrical apparatus penetrating the ceiling i.e. recessed lighting.
  12. All debris resulting from the installation will be removed.

  14. Boarded areas will be insulated over (if not in use).
  15. When completed the insulation in the loft will be no less than 250mm thick.
  16. The loft hatch will also be covered with 250mm inside a polythene bag, if loft ladder is fitted this may not be possible.
  17. The loft hatch will have draught proofing fitted and two hooks and eyes to hold it in place again if ladder fitted this may not be possible.
  18. If you are not sure about something speak to the technician, he will be happy to help with any questions you may have.
